What whānau often ask

Who is Ako Tamariki for?

Ako Tamariki is for tamariki aged roughly 2 to 8, especially whānau wanting a gentle, engaging way to bring te reo Māori into everyday life.

Do children need to be able to read?

No. The experience is being designed to be audio-first and visual-first, so tamariki can learn through listening, tapping, repetition, and playful guidance rather than needing to read instructions on screen.

Will this help us use te reo Māori at home, even if we are just starting out?

Yes. Ako Tamariki fits real home life, with short, encouraging learning moments that help whānau build confidence together from the very first kupu.

What kind of learning experience will my child have?

The focus is on playful exposure, listening, recognition, and confidence-building. Tamariki will meet kupu through illustrations, spoken prompts, and simple interactions that feel calm, warm, and rewarding.
